What is now Chevy Chase real estate was originally 560 acres of farm land bought as far back as 1725 which eventually was developed into a pedestrian-friendly community providing a peaceful safe haven from the hustle and bustle of downtown Washington, DC. The Chevy Chase Land Co. purchased the property in 1890, but the majority of the residential development occurred during the building boom after WWI. Today’s Chevy Chase was greatly influenced by the advent of streetcars around the turn of the century creating major corridors of transportation. Chevy Chase real estate continues to benefit from today’s mass transportation with its easy access to the Metro red line in it’s sister community of Friendship Heights on the DC line and the Bethesda Metro in neighboring downtown Bethesda.
